See Hard Drive Activity WITHOUT a HD LED Indicator
I seem to spend more and more time remoting into peoples PC’s and servers.. When I’m troubleshooting I can never tell if there is disk activity or not.. then I came across a laptop WITHOUT an HD LED indicator, WTF. So the other day I am cloning a hard drive for a new server and its taking for-Ever.. I’m monitoring the whole thing via RDP and I can’t tell if the process has stalled or not, nor can I tell if there is hard drive activity. So here ya go.. it puts a little icon in the system tray and flashes like a hard drive LED:
DiskLED (https://www.sepago.com/blog/2014/01/22/freeware-diskled-tool) -this one is the best one I’ve found, the activity meter has two display modes and can monitor more than just HD activity… I think I can run multiple instances each one monitoring a different parameter, and It has a small memory footprint.. I think its going into my thumbdrive tool box. The site has some other interesting utilities as well.
WinLED (): seems to be a clone of DiskLED.. I never even loaded it.
Activity Indicator (http://sourceforge.net/projects/activityindicat/?source=navbar): more bells and whisltes.. and it takes more system resources, and it only indicates disk Writes not Reads.. but it will show you a log of what it is writing…
share and enjoy
